Some Ramblings...

How are you today? Hope you're enjoying the month of July! Personally, I celebrated my birthday earlier this month without much fanfare. I'm not huge on birthday celebrations, but my husband made it special and we had a fun long weekend leading up to it, so that was lovely. 😊

Well, it's winter around here and although the days are starting to get a bit longer, we can't seem to shake the overcast/rainy days. It's cold, too. I'm not much of a winter fan, but this year I'm trying to be positive. To make the most out of each day, regardless of length and weather.

As we start a new week, I really hope this one brings with it good and fun stories because last week was full of disappointing media.

It started with the book I read, which ended up becoming a boring slog. Then I tried to play MOONLIGHT PEAKS, but had to stop because the loading times annoyed the hell out of me. That was followed by the movie OBSESSION, which turned out to be quite bland. Great concept that through the actions/treatment of each character, ultimately came across as meh. And even sexist. Maybe that was the intention but I didn't like it. Nope. I'm fact, the more I think about it, the more it annoys me. Why didn't anyone warn me about the animal death at the beginning of the movie?! Definitely needed a TW. 😑

Inde Navarrette was great, though. Excellent performance.

Even THE VAMPIRE LESTAT season finale was a total disappointment. After an action-packed, absolutely fantastic season full of Lestat the Rockstar goodness, as well as so much vampiric shenanigans, the finale turned out to be a very unsatisfying end. We're thrown into a fever dream that made no actual sense.

THE VAMPIRE LESTAT/INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is one of my favourite shows and I've enjoyed the hell out of every episode throughout the entire three seasons. It's such a terrific and exciting adaptation that enhances the source material in amazing ways. That's why I found the S3 finale so jarring. It took the story to a strange place. Threw the audience into a disconnected set of scenes that didn't match the momentum of the previous six episodes. I mean, how do you set up such a great story arc and then... nothing? It felt off to me.

Even the songs were misused in this episode. And don't get me started on Armand's pathetic story. Or Daniel's nonsensical crap. Both were very weak and out of character, too.

Ugh. I'm so disappointed. I'm sure this bizarre approach will work for some, but it definitely didn't work for me.

If you don't want to know anything about THE VAMPIRE LESTAT, skip the next THREE PARAGRAPHS to avoid details that might be considered mild spoilers.

Hope they have clear plans for Lestat's future because it feels like they wrote themselves into a corner just to bring Louis and Lestat together again. Pretty much twisted and bent the story to fit a love narrative. Is it fan service? A strange plan the writers had from the beginning? I don't know, but it doesn't make fucking sense to me.

I love what the show did with Lestat and enjoyed all the breadcrumbs that revealed his truth via song. But everything the music introduced was completely destroyed with the long table/fake concert scenes.

I've been listening non-stop to Lestat's songs by Daniel Hart and I personally think that he did a much better job at revealing the many layers and emotions that make Lestat who/what he is. If you've listened to Big Bad Wolf as many times as I have, then you know that song totally goes against getting involved with Louis. While you can argue that Brutal Love contradicts that statement, that's because I think the narrative (since the second last ep) was rigged to setup that reunion. No matter the cost to Lestat's story.

Anyway, those are my tangled thoughts.

Oh, before I forget. We also watched MORTAL KOMBAT II, which was silly and totally lame, but made me laugh.

I hope this week's reading and viewing is a LOT better. I did start playing MINEKO'S NIGHT MARKET and I'm addicted already, so that's good.

Asides from all of the above, we've been doing a lot of spring cleaning/sorting. It's tiring work that takes hours, but every time we organise a new section and clear the clutter, I feel lighter.

That's it from me. Have an awesome week!! 😊
