I was in the mood for something shorter tonight and found this novella on my Paperwhite.
When Laura accepts the gift of an Easy Bake Oven from a stranger, she doesn't realise it comes with a contract she unknowingly signs...
Well, this little cautionary tale turned out to be a LOT of fun!
Laura might be twelve and suffering from the trauma her abusive father left in his wake, but she's also wise for her age. At the same time, she's quite naive because she gets herself into a deal with the Devil after she accepts a gift with lots of dark strings attached.
I mean, who accepts a present that's in a garbage bag from a lady who's acting weird and everyone else avoids? To be honest, I think quite a few people would take something just because its free. And most of them aren't even kids! 😅
Anyway, I really enjoyed Laura's story. It's the right amount of creepy, teaches a very valuable lesson, but is also about a kid who owns her mistake and makes the most out of the situation. I even chuckled quite a bit.
This is a great tale, and I really enjoyed it!
