My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The other day, my husband and I went on a little retail adventure to a bigger shopping centre that's definitely not local. And there, we went to Big W, which always has a fantastic selection of books. While there, I found a bunch of The Nightmare Before Christmas books I didn't even know had been published!
This is one of them.
I actually read the Long Live the Pumpkin Queen novel several years ago and LOVED it. The story takes place after Sally and Jack get married and the weight of responsibility scares Sally so much she unknowingly exposes Halloween Town to a dangerous monster.
It's a beautiful story about expectation and self-discovery because Sally not only finds out how clever and strong she really is by carrying the burden of fixing her mistake, but she also finds out some very interesting things about her past.
It's magical and cozy, and the graphic novel captures the narrative with stunning artwork. The panels are perfectly created, the story simplified in a way that makes it loyal but also fresh. And I love how the illustrations bring the story to life via a visual medium that's absolutely captivating.
I'm so happy we found this because it's another awesome addition to my growing collection.
