A Head Full of Ideas

Hey! How are you today? I hope you all had an awesome September.

Well, October is here and that means that it's officially Halloween season. Though, to be honest, as far as I'm concerned it's always Halloween season. Also, daylight savings is finally here and the days are getting longer.

So, quite a few weeks have gone by since the thing I mentioned at the beginning of last month, and I'm SO glad that shitty situation is over and done with. After too many months of worry, frustration and disappointment, it feels really good to be free from bullshit. I hope this latest ordeal closes the door on crappy publishing experiences for a very long time.

I mean, there'll always be assholes out there who prey on writers, but I've had the misfortune of dealing with WAY too many of them. It would be nice to deal with good and supportive people for a change. I hope my future experiences are better. Fingers crossed because I still have trust issues to overcome before I can fully commit myself to get my stories out there again. Baby steps is the only way to go.

Anyway, enough about that. I spent September reading like crazy while jotting down a bunch of notes for several story ideas, researching, and updating files on my phone and laptop. I did a LOT of updates!

While I've been productive in many ways, I haven't gotten stuck into one particular story yet. Although my head is full of ideas, I didn't want to rush into anything yet. Though, having said that, there's one particular story that won't leave me alone. One that keeps hounding my brain and I've already started writing. At the moment, it's just over 1k words, but I've started a Notes doc that has pages full of snippets, dialogue, and character info. So much stuff that I'm pretty sure it's going to be longer than a short story.

To be honest, I think this could be a fun project, and I really need that right now because for months, my mind has been so jam-packed with negative thoughts that I couldn't focus on anything. And I think I'm ready to break that vicious cycle of not being able to pick just the one project.

Sometimes, all the ideas demand my attention and it gets so overwhelming that I don't end up finishing anything! 🙃

2026 is turning out to be a weird and wonky year and although I've been productive, the word count has stalled for months. Last year I wrote and revised two novels, one novelette, and about 25 short stories. Yet this year, I've only completed a handful of short stories and a full novel re-write/edit that went nowhere.

Every year is different, I suppose. And this year I've done a lot of other things: spring cleaning/sorting, plenty of reading, and an overhaul of my website that involved a pretty big learning curve. Productivity doesn't always involve a high word count, and sometimes you just need a break.

Okay, that's enough rambling for today. LMAO. I just wanted to post an update, which ended up being a bunch of scattered thoughts. 😁

Have an awesome weekend!!
