Naughty Loki, Happy Feet and X-Mas almost done...

<------ This little furball is the reason why I only added 200 words to my story this morning. :/ He's so darn cute, but so naughty! Loki wants to explore every nook and cranny around the place, and loves to climb as high as he can. Cheeky boy.

It's actually my own fault, to be quite honest. He's got a routine - loves to have a nap as soon as the hubby leaves for work. And during the last few weeks I've been checking out the internet first, then writing. Of course, by then he's awake and wants to run around everywhere. So, from next week onward the routine for moi is going to change. Write first, internet later! Besides, my daughter doesn't sleep past 7am now. I lose another hour there. Damn, huh?

Anyway, enough whining for now.

Last night we watched Happy Feet. I really wasn't expecting much from this flick because the trailers I saw for it just had a penguin dacing. I had no idea what they were going to do with that, but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved it! The way modern music was used was fantastic and I loved the attitude the little Hispanic penguins had. It was hilarious. I really enjoyed it.

We watched March of the Penguins not long ago, so it was great to see how they mixed a fictional story with fact. Emperor penguins seem so organised, so this was great. Mumble was also a lovely hero. Very innocent and kind-hearted. Yeah, I thought this was a winner. I don't know what others thought of it, but I was very impressed! Very cool ending too. Both the hubby and daughter enjoyed it too.

Ah, the writing's going really well at the moment - asides from this morning, obviously. ;) I've now gotten to 21,294 words, so that's excellent. I'm very close to the end now. I'm on the final battle stage. When I write that, it'll be time to tie everything up between hero, heroine and everything else. Not sure how much will be involved in terms of word count, but I would definitely love to get this first draft done before it's time to head out to pick my daughter up from school. Fingers crossed.

Man, the weekend's almost here again. Hey, I'm not complaining but gosh it goes quick!

Looks like the lovely sunny day we had yesterday - after three days of non-stop rain - won't be repeated today. It's overcast again. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it rains later. :/

Have a great weekend everyone!

KITTY TAKES A HOLIDAY

After getting caught turning wolf on national television, Kitty retreats to a mountain cabin to recover and write her memoirs. But this is Kitty, so trouble is never far behind, and instead of Walden Pond, she gets Evil Dead. When werewolf hunter Cormac shows up with an injured Ben O'Farrell, Kitty's lawyer, slung over his shoulder, and a wolf-like creature with glowing red eyes starts sniffing around the cabin, Kitty wonders if any of them will get out of these woods alive...

Wow
, what a wild ride this book was! I loved the first two Kitty books, so I'm not surprised that I loved this one as well. There's a lot going on, and I loved that she got to spend some time with Cormac and Ben. Very surprised with the events that took place in this novel and I can't wait to see what Carrie Vaughn does next with the series. See where she takes Kitty...

Well, I know she goes back to Denver in the next book to face her old pack... so that's definitely something worth checking out.

Kitty's a fantastic character. I've been very lucky with my reading choices lately and I hope the streak continues too. What a fabulous book this was! Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!!

If you haven't read any of the Kitty books yet, you've just gotta! ;)

BLOOD BOUND

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind. But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

I finished this book yesterday. It was one of those books that when you start reading it, you just can't wait to get to the end because you must know how everything turns out. But when I finished it, I missed it. It's bizarre, but it was that great! I think I enjoyed it even more than the first one, which is insane because I loved that one too.

Anyway, in the second Mercy Thompson book we get deeper into her world and how she fits into all the different facets of the paranormal creatures - werewolves, vampires and fae. There are other creatures mentioned in this one too, and I can't wait to read how she expands further into this wonderful world.

I checked Patricia Briggs' website the other day and found out the next book is called Iron Kissed and deals with the fae community. So that's very cool, can't wait.

If you like urban fantasy tales, you have to check this book out! What Mercy has to go through in this book is intriguing, and so is the ending. I love the cast of characters in this world and Mercy's as true-to-life as a heroine on paper can be.

I'm a fan! :D

DEFINITELY DEAD

This is Sookie book #6. I'm about a year behind because I wait for the paperback release... but if there's a series that deserves hardback editions, it's this one. Sookie Stackhouse never disappoints, IMHO. It's just that for me to buy the hardback edition, it would cost me $50. That's my whole monthly book budget on one book! And when you buy as many books as I do, yikes! That's just too much. Besides, I like to keep my series books in the same format. :)

Anyway, enough about that, let's talk about the book. It was excellent! I started it on Sunday and finished it yesterday because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. It was a lovely ride, and I'm really liking Quinn. I really hope he's a keeper for Sookie, I think they make a nice couple and who doesn't like tigers?

I really, really enjoyed this one and can't wait to see whay happens in the next one... one year from now! Also looking forward to seeing what they do with the HBO show.

NIGHT RISING

Stuntwoman Dawn Madison is a girl with a lot of attitude—and a lot of issues, mostly about living up to the legacy of her mother, a world famous movie star/sex symbol, whose death left Dawn to be raised by her dad Frank, nobody’s notion of single-father-of-the-year. Now that she’s all grown up, she and Frank aren’t on the best of terms, to say the least.

Still, he is her dad, and when he vanishes while investigating the bizarre sighting—caught on film—of a supposedly long-dead child star, she comes home to Tinseltown to join the search for him. Working with his colleagues—a psychic short in stature but big in dreams of stardom, a beautiful Latina techno-geek, and the P. I. firm’s never-seen boss—she discovers an erotic and bloody underground society made up of creatures she thought existed only on the screen.

They are devious. They are deadly. And some of them are dangerously attractive…

This is the first VAMPIRE BABYLON book, and boy is it a wild ride! I absolutely loved this book and was totally engrossed into the story. I can't wait to see what happens next, though there's still a bit of a wait until the second book. :)

I started reading this book about a month ago and got through the first 100 pages. But then my own writing schedule kept getting in the way of any available moment I had, and unfortunately wasn't able to get through it as fast as I wanted. I knew from the beginning of the tale that I would enjoy it, and I wasn't wrong.

The vampire myth is taken to a completely different level in this book, and we're thrown deep into the underbelly of Hollywood and the many secrets that exist there. It was amazing! And there are so many wonderful and intriguing characters. One of which is Frank - the father that has gone missing.

Dawn is an excellent, real character with an attitude to boot. I knew I'd like her because Chris writes fantastic heroines. But don't get me wrong, even the secondary characters are interesting - from the smart-mouthed Kiko, to the harsh Breisi, and the mysterious Voice. Not to forget Matt, either.

Anyway, this was an amazing tale that I'm looking forward to following through to the end. So do yourself a favour and check out this dark urban fantasy that throws you deep into the action and life of Dawn Madison.
