THE WORLD ACCORDING TO WONDER WOMAN by Matthew K. Manning

The World According to Wonder WomanThe World According to Wonder Woman by Matthew K. Manning
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've been a Wonder Woman fan since I was a kid. She's my fave, so I collect WW books and collectibles. So when hubby surprised me with this book, I couldn't wait to read it.

I picked it up today and read it in a few sittings. It's such an informative book! Told in the POV of Wonder Woman/Diana, it starts from the beginning. How hard it was growing up in Themyscira where the other Amazons never really accepted her. How she rescued Steve and then won the chance to go to the world of man. Being a member of the Justice League, becoming the God of War, how she felt finding out the truth her mother hid from her, and all the gods, monsters and superheroes she knows.

There's a LOT of awesome stuff in this hardback volume. The stories WW tells are interesting, and are accompanied by gorgeous artwork. There are even fold-out posters and a map, reports, clippings... so much excellent stuff to read and look at.

I loved every single page. The stories, even though I knew most of them, captivated me because there really was new info. Oh, and I got a kick out of her getting involved with Superman. Totally ship it. ;)

I'm so excited about adding this book to my ever-growing Wonder Woman collection.

Awesome!

WONDER WOMAN: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

29749085
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'm a HUGE Wonder Woman fan. I've got a shrine full of WW collectibles. I used to love the show when I was a kid. I went to watch the movie twice because I loved it so much. My favourite mug is a WW one.

Yeah, I'm a fan.

So of course I was looking forward to reading a YA Wonder Woman story.

Diana is always trying to prove herself to her sisters. She might be the queen's daughter, but isn't really considered to be a true Amazon. That's why she enters a race, and is determined to win. Instead, she ends up witnessing a boat explosion and saves a young human girl.

She hides Alia in a cave, but having her is harming the island and making everyone sick. Plus, if she stays she'll end up dying.

When Diana finds out Alia is a Warbringer, she decides to get her off the island and sets off on an adventure to stop war from ravaging the world...

Okay. *takes a deep breath*

I have to be honest. I didn't love this book.

The writing is nice. Diana is great. I liked Theo and Nim. Alia's POV was okay. Actually, I would've liked it better if only Diana's POV was featured. I really disliked Jason. I didn't buy anything about him. Not his connection to Diana, his motivations, or the big reveal. Nope. Nothing.

It's a shame because I thought I would love this book, and I didn't. The story just didn't hook me in like I hoped. It just... I don't know. There was something missing.

Oh well. I'm still glad I read it.

Hello, when will the sun come out?

As you can probably guess by my title, the weather has been horrible in Sydney lately. Actually, since Thursday night, it's pretty much been raining on and off. It's such a drag. The sun has teased us a few times, but it remains mostly hidden and I'm totally over it. I need some sunshine in my life. O_o

Anyway. Today, I have a headache. Or what I like to call the post-book blues. It's when I finalise a book, get it out the door and I feel a little lost afterwards. Even melancholy. I mean, it's super exciting to have gotten the book done and submitted, but I also miss it.

It's totally weird.

The book I'm talking about is Recast #4. I finalised the synopsis yesterday, checked it one last time and submitted it to my lovely editor. *bites nails*

Yeah, as soon as the story is out there waiting to be read by my editor, a new thing happens. I get to stress about whether she'll like it or not. LMAO. Being a writer is filled with all sorts of angst and worry, isn't it? ;)

That's why I need to get stuck into something else...

This week I need a tiny mental break. But I'm hoping to fill in the time with some reading (I'm SO behind on review books and my own TBR pile), writing a handful of guest blog posts, tidying up some of my wandering stationery, updating the Recast Series Bible, and maybe even brainstorming some of the projects I'd like to tackle this year. Exciting stuff!

OMG. Speaking of books, there was this TOTALLY INSANE 90% OFF sale going on at Kobo over the weekend, and I went nuts. NUTS, I tell you. I think I picked up almost 80 books! Yikes. It was awesome. I caught up on a bunch of series that I've fallen behind on.

As you know, I'm a huge reader and spend quite a bit of money buying paperbacks, Kindle books, and even Google Play books. Now I've added Kobo to the mix. I mean, I don't actually have a Kobo, but I have a Galaxy Note 3 so I can read my books on my phone. Like I said, AWESOME! :P

Well, lunchtime is sneaking up on me and I feel like I haven't done anything today. But that's okay, I'm not going to feel guilty over it. Not when I've been working my butt off during the last two weeks getting a story finished.

Have a great day!

WONDER WOMAN: Amazons Attack! by Will Pfeifer and Pete Woods

The 6-issue miniseries AMAZONS ATTACK by the CATWOMAN creative team of Will Pfeifer and Pete Woods explodes in this hardcover volume! Over a year since the events of INFINITE CRISIS, Wonder Woman's Amazon Sisters have retreated to the realm of the gods. But now the Amazons are back, screaming for vengeance. What could compel the Amazons to renounce their peaceful ways and attack the United States? The answers will prove useless to a country whose super-powered protectors are utterly unprepared for this savage attack. And where is Wonder Woman while her sisters threaten to destroy a nation?

When we went to the library yesterday, hubby found this book and because he knows I love Wonder Woman, he showed it to me. Of course, I had to borrow it and decided to get stuck into it today.

Circe resurrect Queen Hippolyta and when she asks about her daughter Diana, Circe tells her the American government has her. The queen then declares war on mankind by unleashing the Amazons on American soil to destroy them. While the Justice League tries to protect humans and Wonder Woman confronts her mother to try and end this senseless war...

It started out pretty well. I liked the character list at the front, and the story seemed like it was going somewhere. For a while. Then, a lot of stuff started to happen behind the scenes. Some of what was going on didn't make much sense. And the more I read, the more the story seemed disjointed--jumping from here to there, and back again without making sense.

In the end, I found the disjointed events to be more confusing than anything else. Which is a real shame since I love Wonder Woman. Though to be honest, she really wasn't in it much. Or seemed very important to the overall story, even though the whole war thing starts because of her. Strange.

The drawings are nice. Even if most of the women look the same--young, with big boobs and muscled bodies. :/ At least Wonder Woman looked cool

Wonder Woman: Down to Earth & Supernatural: Origins

Wonder Woman's quest to change the world meets resistance in many forms, and when she pens a book outlining her philosophy, she ignites a firestorm of controversy. From humans out to destroy her reputation to supervillains planning to destroy the world and ancient gods with darker intentions still, everybody seems to be gunning for the Amazon Princess.
I finished reading my first ever Wonder Woman comic book. Yeah, I know, it's hard to believe since I'm a huge fan. I was even wearing my Wonder Woman top all day today. ;) But honestly, I really enjoyed the story. Lots of action, great dialogue, and a very interesting storyline.
I LOVE the cover, too. How awesome is it? Very awesome. Lol.

Then I found this SUPERNATURAL: ORIGINS comic and grabbed it right away. I didn't see any of the others, but I hope they've got them. I love this series, and miss the boys when they're on a break, but their father always fascinated me.
This graphic novel prequel to the hit CW television show written by series Executive Producer, Peter Johnson, gives readers an incredible never-before-seen look into the mythos of the series.
After witnessing the murder of his wife at the hands of a demon, patriarch John Winchester begins a journey into the dark world of the supernatural, seeking a way to hunt down and kill the creature that took his wife. Can a newly widowed father balance fighting evil with raising his children? Discover what becomes of his two young sons, Dean and Sam, and how these formative events from their childhood will forever alter their destiny.
I felt that this story carried on from one of my favourite episodes this season - IN THE BEGINNING. I enjoyed catching a glimpse of Mary and John Winchester before all the horror that tore their life apart. And until then, I'd always assumed that the hunter life was something John had somehow inherited, I'd never suspected Mary was the one who unwillingly got all of them stuck in the world they're all forced to live in now.

Loved it! And although I felt that a lot of answers were still left open in this comic book, I'm sure that there'll be some as you read the other editions. And that is why I need to get my hands on them. ;)

Anyway, if you're a SUPERNATURAL fan, I think you'll get a kick out of this one.
