Okay, let me start with this: I LOVED the first two books in this trilogy. So I was looking forward to reading the last book.
Things start out pretty crazy, like they usually do. Mara is in a hospital environment and is imagining all kinds of things. Well, she might be. Or it might all be happening because her memory is splotchy and Dr. Kells is doing a bunch of experiments on her. But thanks to the insane Jude, she gets out.
But not without committing a little double murder first.
So, anyway, she gets out with Jamie and Stella. But not Noah, because apparently he's dead. And so begins a cross-country adventure that has them lying, tricking, killing, and stealing their way to New York. Where they plan to get some answers, conveniently find a place to stay, and amazingly manage to run into Mara's older brother. Yep. Daniel's gonna help them figure things out. :/
Everything does get revealed in this book and, I think that because of that, it ends up being the weakest of the three.
There are just too many coincidences making everything a little too convenient. And Mara just didn't feel like Mara. Plus Noah is MIA for most of the book, and when he is in it we get snippets of his POV that I didn't think were necessary.
The creepy factor that I enjoyed so much in the previous books was missing. I was mostly scratching my head about how everything seemed to work out okay no matter what crazy shit happened. Actually, I think Stella was the only one acting like a real person.
And the last 100 pages were pretty senseless.
What I did like a lot: the writing style, the snippets into Mara's grandmother, plus how the ending leads back to the beginning.
Unfortunately, although I really wanted to love it, I was ultimately disappointed with this book. :(
