BURNT SUGAR by Lish McBride

This short story was a great way to kick off my 2015 reading. It's AWESOME! Not just because it's written so well, or because the world drew me in right away. It's not even Ava's voice telling the story so well.

It's all of those things and a whole lot more!

Ava, Ezra and Lock are part of the magical mafia run by a scary vampire named Venus. Their latest assignment to collect money leads them into a dark forest. And if that's not creepy enough for you, add a gingerbread house and two health nuts dressed in lycra. o_O

My gosh, this was an excellent tale which blends a fairy tale location with a bunch of supernatural kids, and a real world attitude.

I really (really) loved this! And the title is brilliant. I need to get my hands on Ava's first book. Like, right now. ;)

Anyway, TOR.com publishes some terrific stories.

Don't take my word for it, read it online: http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/12/bu...# I've already given my daughter the link. :)
