Random Reading Thoughts

Hey, how are you today?

It's been a while since I posted anything, so I thought I might talk about the recent change in my reading habits.

For the first time in years, I don't have any ARCs or review books left on my TBR pile.

This might not sound like a big thing but for the last ten years, I've been reviewing books for several publishers. And because of that, I kept pushing review books to the top of my TBR pile.

Getting the chance to read books before they're released is an amazing opportunity and I loved doing it. The downside is that all my other books took a backseat. I mean, there's only so many hours in the day. 😵

Being a HUGE reader and a bibliophile means that I buy books all the time. A LOT OF BOOKS. From online stores, bookstores, Kindle store, Kobo store and a variety of thrift stores. And I buy them because I want to read them, but I kept running out of time.

Now, I find myself in a strange--yet freeing--place. I can finally read whatever I want, whenever I want. And I've been taking full advantage of this. I'm digging back into my Paperwhite and starting to go through my many thrift store finds. And it's GREAT!

Another unexpected thing is that I'm also more relaxed about when I read. As well as not feeling as bad about DNFing books.

Maybe now I'll also get the chance to catch up on my fave series and finish off the ones that are complete.

BUT, don't get me wrong. This doesn't mean I won't review books for authors and publishers in the future. Of course I will. It just means that I won't be as swamped as I was before.

Happy reading! 😁📚

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MARLON BUNDO by Jill Twiss & EG Keller

A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Last night while watching Last Week Tonight, John Oliver's report about Mike Pence's bunny book announced THEY had a much better bunny book available.

So hubby donated money to The Trevor Project and we got a free copy of this charming picture book about an adorable bunny who falls for another boy bunny. All Marlon and Wesley want is to be happy together, but the stinky Stink Bug has other ideas. He doesn't believe in equality and tries to ruin everything...

I loved this!

Not only is the story awesome because it's adorable and has an amazing message, but the illustrations are so pretty. And all the animal characters are delightful! Plus, the very serious issues of tolerance, same sex marriage and how democracy is supposed to work are interwoven so well.

This is one clever, cute and fun book.

I think everyone should read it!

So go and grab yourself a copy from The Trevor Project: https://t.co/nP3btN5F0h

BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP by SJ Watson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The other day I said I was in a thriller-kinda mood... and then remembered that I've had this book in my Google Play app for a while.

As soon as I started, I was hooked.

Christine wakes up every morning without any memories. She doesn't know how old she is, who the man lying beside her is, or what she did the day before. Luckily, her husband Ben answers all her questions. Every. Single. Day.

But when Dr. Nash starts to help her and encourages her to start a journal, everything changes. She decides to hide it and writes everything down. Then reads it every day.

The more she reads, the less she trusts Ben and wonders why there are so many holes in the information he provides. But delving into her past could turn deadly...

Wow. What an addictive story! I raced through this book because I couldn't wait to find out where Christine's suspicions were going to lead. The conclusion is so messed up, but fascinating.

Loved this book, and enjoyed studying the clues as Christine uncovered them. It was also such a sad story. I can't imagine how awful it would be to forget your life every time you fall asleep. :(

Great book!

CHANCE by Kate Forster

Book Cover: Chance
Willow and Kitty will discover there is no such thing as chance - only destiny.

Actress Willow Carruthers is living the dream in London, with an Oscar on her shelf, a rock-star husband and two gorgeous children. But Willow isn't coping with her seemingly perfect life.

Country girl Kitty Middlemist arrives in London desperate for a job. She has a perfect pedigree on paper, but no particular skills in real life. Work is hard to find until Kitty, quite by chance, takes on a job with Willow.

As their lives and secrets become intertwined, Willow and Kitty discover there is no such thing as chance - only destiny.

I actually got this novella for free on Google Play Books, and read it in one sitting.

It was a great and interesting introdution to Willow--famous actress and now a full time mum--and Kitty--mysterious girl without much ambition. The day their worlds collide, both of them are facing personal challenges in their lives.

I'm intrigued...
