A few movies -

So we watched Corpse Bride last night.

I was pleasantly surprised at how great it was. I probably shouldn't have been surprised because I absolutely love The Nightmare Before Christmas but I didn't know what to expect this time. Well, it was funny, had a wonderful little tale to tell, looked absolutely beautiful and ended up being a lovely, heart-warming movie. All the performances were outstanding. I've really enjoyed everything Tim Burton has been doing lately. There's a lovely dark-edge to everything he does without making it scary, just kinda eerie.

Definitely give this movie the big thumbs up! Even my hubby and daughter loved it...

The hubby and I also watched a Russian fantasy/horror flick called Night Watch. It's about people who are born as Others - an array of vampires, shape-shifters, witches, seers etc - and are split up into light and dark. Basically it's about the ongoing battle raging between them but focuses on a particular man called Anton and his importance in all of this. There are a few surprises and not just in the special effects department, which weren't too bad but the story lacked a little something for me.

There were some cool things going on and the story held a pretty good subplot that tied into the main storyline but there was just something... the ending was a little disappointing, as was the owl-chick, but overall it was a pretty cool ride. A different take on the whole supernatural genre that's worth a look. It's also the first movie in a trilogy, so it would be cool to see where they take it from here.
