THE LADY ASTRONAUT OF MARS by Mary Robinette Kowal

The Lady Astronaut of MarsThe Lady Astronaut of Mars by Mary Robinette Kowal
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can't remember how I stumbled on this novelette, but I was very excited when I did because it sounded intringuing.

Elma York is an aging astronaut who actually led the expedition that made life on Mars possible. She never forgot about the stars and has longed to return for years, but no one wants an old astronaut for any mission. Now, when her husband, Nathaniel, is ill and time is running out, an unexpected offer comes her way...

Well, this story is amazing. Wow.

It's hard to describe how deeply Elma's narrative pulled me in. The writing style is lovely and immersive, so vivid I got swept away in the memories of her exciting past, and the surroundings.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a sucker for Mars and the way this setting is portrayed was definitely captivating. This might be set in the future, but everything about this story is drenched with vintage vibes. Also, there's a very humane sadness surrounding this successful, loving couple that was heartbreaking. 😥

I read this in one sitting because I didn't want to stop until I reached the end. Loved it!

I highly recommend it! 👩‍🚀🚀🌌
