I was always curious about Lena's mother, so I was super excited about reading her story. I finally know and understand where Lena got her streak of rebellion and passion for life.
Annabel's world changes around her and slowly becomes an organised society where people are getting surgical procedures to eliminate love. However, she rebels and runs away from home. This is where she meets the boy she falls in love with but knows he will never love her back because he's already had the procedure done.
Still, she manages to fool everyone, even when her procedure doesn't work.
The story is told in Then and Now, revealing her young past as well as the time she's locked up.
I loved this story. It's beautifully written. It's also sad, and has some joy weaved into it. But mostly, it's filled with hope.
