From trapped souls to mirrored minds, self-curing dementia to self-inflicted demons, and the ones who will never stop hunting you down.
Eight stories. Nine authors.
So, where do we begin?
Let's just see... where the Mood Leads.
I have to start my review by stating that I'm actually one of the lucky authors Wayne invited to this very cool collaborative anthology. Although I don't usually rate my own books, I will definitely rate this one because there are eight other authors included in this book.
Here are my thoughts about each story...
THE REELS OF TIME AND DUST by Jennifer Bernardini and Wayne Fenlon: A dark tale about a forgotten camera, a woman with an eye for photos, and the ancient art of getting film developed. Seriously creepy throughout and I really like the ending.
TINY GRAVES by Adam Hulse and Wayne Fenlon: The story of a smug man who thinks he knows what he's up against, only to find he has no idea. Very tense tale that kept me guessing until everything is revealed.
SEPTIMUS by Bill Davidson and Wayne Fenlon: What a terrifying cautionary tale about the shocking dangers of trusting AI. Now I despise AI and billionaires even more than I did before! 😅 Great story.
MAN, WOMAN, WATCHER by Cindy O'Quinn and Wayne Fenlon: A surreal adventure that felt like a fever dream with such lyrical writing that I got lost in the words and imagery. Another good one!
RIPPED OUT OF ROUTINE by Brian Bowyer and Wayne Fenlon: This story is fast-paced and devastating. Chilling. Also, the ending is: 😳!! Fantastic.
THE GIRL WHO NEVER BLOSSOMED by Yolanda Sfetsos and Wayne Fenlon: I had a great time brainstorming and writing this short story with Wayne. It's a haunting little tale about a tormented, trapped soul.
THE CROSSING OF THE SLUAGH by Holly Rae Garcia and Wayne Fenlon: I really enjoyed this take about a Scottish man trying to earn a hard living while desperately attempting to protect his family. Melancholy throughout and shocking at the end.
THE WHITE FIRE OF BUCKLEWOOD by Elford Alley and Wayne Fenlon: What a great way to end an amazing anthology. The narrative deals with familial ties, abuse, deception and murder. Love how it all comes together.
Well, there you have it. I think this is a brilliant anthology packed with dark and highly imaginative stories. Every single one is different but just as enjoyable. And the thread, the lifeblood that flows through the whole thing is Wayne. His dedication, talent, and ideas made every tale shine brighter.
I feel privileged to be a part of such a cool project, and rode a turbulent wave of unpredictable experiences without knowing where the mood would lead...
